British PM meets Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistani PM
British High Commissioner Christian Turner called on the newly elected Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and expressed his desire to work with Pakistan to strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation.
Shahbaz Sharif was elected the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan on April 11 after the removal of Imran Khan from the PM’s post through a no-confidence motion.
In his first meeting with the new head of government today, the British High Commissioner congratulated the Prime Minister on assuming office and expressed good wishes from the British government.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Shahbaz Sharif appreciated the work done by the United Kingdom for the promotion of education, health, and other social sectors in Pakistan.
Christian Turner thanked the Prime Minister and expressed his desire to work with Pakistan to strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan values its relations with the United Kingdom which are based on historical ties and common interests on a wide range of issues.
He emphasized the importance of better trade and investment-oriented relations and the need to develop relations between the two countries at the strategic level.
The Prime Minister highlighted the role of the bridge being built between the two countries for the 1.6 million overseas Pakistanis living in the UK and the need to strengthen cooperation in the field of legal migration.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was received by Bahrain’s Ambassador to Pakistan Muhammad Ibrahim Muhammad, and congratulated on assuming the office of Prime Minister by the Bahraini leadership.
Referring to the long-standing and friendly relations between Pakistan and Bahrain, the Bahraini Ambassador said that Bahrain was keen to further strengthen bilateral relations with Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif thanked the Ambassador of Bahrain for the congratulatory message from the Bahraini leadership and said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Bahrain and is keen to further enhance cooperation in various fields.
The Prime Minister highlighted the potential for cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, information technology, manpower, and food security, and the importance of strengthening bilateral economic ties.
Shahbaz Sharif thanked the Bahraini government for taking care of the Pakistani community during the difficult time of the coronavirus outbreak.
