Chairman PCB Rameez Raja’s decision not to Resign
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Rameez Raja has decided not to resign after Shahbaz Sharif was elected Prime Minister of the country following a successful no-confidence motion against Imran Khan.
According to the sources, sources said that Rameez Raja will decide whether to continue as chairman of PCB or not on the basis of the new prime minister’s treatment of him. Has the power to appoint ahead.
Former Test captain Rameez Raja was elected head of the PCB after Imran Khan nominated him for the post in September last year. Rameez Raja’s position as PCB chairman is in jeopardy.
Rameez Raja replaces former PCB chief Ehsan Mani, who took over the post after Imran Khan came to power in the 2018 general elections. Ehsan Mani was appointed after Najam Sethi’s resignation. Najam Sethi resigned when he felt that Imran Khan would not allow him to complete the remaining three years of his term.
Najam Sethi was the head of the PCB during the PML-N regime and PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif is now in power. Najam Sethi is once again one of the suitable candidates to become the chairman of the cricket board. ۔
Najam Sethi played a pivotal role in the launch of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and is said to have taken the initial steps to bring international cricket back to the country.
During his tenure as PCB chief, the ICC World XI, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe cricket teams visited Pakistan.
The process of persuading international teams to visit Pakistan was accelerated by Ehsan Mani and Wasim Khan, then the PCB’s chief executive, both of whom also improved the structure of Pakistan’s domestic cricket in 2019.
In this regard, he had stopped the participation of departments in domestic cricket and introduced 6 provincial associations as a result of which hundreds of cricketers and staff lost their jobs.
Officials of provincial associations are also appointed by the PCB while their elections are still pending.
During Rameez Raja’s tenure as head of the PCB, Pakistan has hosted a full series against Australia, while England had earlier withdrawn from their tour of New Zealand after the first match in Rawalpindi in September. Had also canceled their schedule. Both the teams are going to visit Pakistan in 2022-23.
The Pakistan cricket team took on a different look after Rameez Raja took over. Under an authoritative captaincy, Babar Azam led Pakistan to its first victory in the World Cup against arch-rivals India, beating traditional rivals by 10 wickets. Pakistan had reached the semi-finals of the World Tournament where it was defeated by event champions Australia.
