Will Smith apologies to comedian Chris Rock over Oscars slap

Will Smith issued the apology after the award management said action could be taken against the award-winning actor as the incident affected the biggest awards ceremony in the film industry.

Will Smith said in an Instagram post that his behavior during the televised ceremony was unacceptable and unforgivable.

“I want to publicly apologize to Chris, I went out of my way and I’m wrong,” he said

It is believed that the incident took place when Chris Rock made fun of Will Smith’s wife’s hair on stage. Will Smith went on stage and slapped the comedian. The Oscar telecast was muted in the United States, but the scene was broadcast in Japan and other countries.

“Will Smith just hit me,” said comedian  Chris Rock,
It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. And I reacted emotionally. ”

“I am ashamed and there is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” he added. Earlier, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences condemned Will Smith’s move, saying “we are reviewing the matter.”

“We are formally reviewing the incident and will consider further action and action under our rules, laws and California law,” the statement said.

The academy’s policy is clearly against violence, harassment or discrimination and according to the statement, academy members value the principles of respect for human dignity.

Violation of these rules may result in suspension or expulsion, cancellation of the Oscars or ineligibility for future awards. Actors’ representative body Sag-Aftra has condemned the slap by Will Smith and said it was in touch with the academy and broadcaster ABC to take appropriate action.

Earlier, producer Harvey Winston’s membership was expelled from the academy for sexually assaulting more than a dozen women.

In his statement, Will Smith also apologized to the academy, show producers, attendees, the audience, the Williams family and members of his film King Richard.

Studio officials, on the other hand, have kept quiet about Will Smith. The 53-year-old actor is currently working on various projects with Netflix, Wald Disney and Apple TV Plus, and these companies have not yet commented.

The Oscar-winning producers expected this year’s event to be a memorable one after the low-ratings events during the Corona epidemic, and they did a lot to that end. But instead of these efforts, the Will Smith and Chris Rock incident went viral and the number of TV viewers also increased by 56% compared to 2021.
